Two-thirds of SAP ERP customers have already adopted or are in the process of adopting S/4HANA in some way according to recent ASUG research. Meanwhile, SAP states 4,577 customers are live on S/4 HANA as of March, 2020. This indicates an impressive 51 percent increase from its 3,000 live in May, 2019, showing S/4HANA adoption is no doubt on the rise.
Realistically, though, for the majority of SAP ERP customers and likely for your organization, it’s easy to fall somewhere in that planning and evaluation stage. The 48 percent of companies participating in the ASUG study that were also in this stage, either implementing or planning to implement S/4HANA, identified specific infrastructure requirements for SAP S/4HANA deployment to be considered successful.
Simply put, there is no one-size-fits-most solution whether you opt for infrastructure, cloud, or otherwise. This is because, as with SAP ERP implementation, an out-of-the-box approach will only get you 80 to 90 percent there. Each organization being unique, they require individual considerations to ensure implementation reaches 100 percent. The same holds true for infrastructure.
So what are the leading criteria for new IT infrastructure? According to the study:
- 45 percent of respondents require incremental scaling; and,
- 40 percent of respondents require the ability to adapt to future needs.
Research also shows that most organizations are planning to run S/4HANA across various cloud types. But most organizations want the same from their cloud providers: reasonable cost and high security.
