IT Infrastructure Refresh: Are you an as-needed or scheduled updates type of an organization?

Thirty-nine percent of SAP customers refresh their infrastructure only on an as-needed basis according to a January, 2020 ASUG survey of SAP customers. According to findings, those organizations experienced greater challenges than the 61 percent conducting planned updates. The same survey also points to three of the biggest challenges faced during infrastructure refresh, specifically staffing shortages, speed in receiving approvals, and a company’s provider of choice.

Results confirm that the most impactful improvements SAP customers can make when refreshing IT Infrastructure is conducting more frequent, proactive scheduling and investing more in resources that are able to assist. And one of the best ways to tackle the issue is choosing the right infrastructure partner.

But what should you look for in a partner? When vetting companies, make sure your potential partner can handle the complete end-to-end update process and that they offer standardized, repeatable practices to achieve your desired outcomes. Simplify and streamline infrastructure updates with a team that brings advanced expertise in this area and can provide a consultative approach throughout the entire SAP lifecycle. Your partner should be able to work with you from implementation through migrations, acquisitions, and divestitures. It’s also ideal if they’re local and able to respond efficiently, offering a customized managed service option to help in driving your day-to-day SAP operations. Finally, make sure they bring the experience necessary to handle everything from SAP BASIS administration through SAP Security, line of business functional support, infrastructure management, and around-the-clock monitoring.
